Gas-to-Liquid

World GTL Trinidad Limited (WGTL-TL) is a joint venture between World GTL Inc. and Petroleum Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (Petrotrin) which hold 51% and 49% equity stakes respectively.

WGTL-TL will own and operate the 2,250 bpd Gas to Liquids (GTL) plant that will be located at the Petrotrin Pointe-a-Pierre refinery. Petrotrin will supply the feedstock natural gas and will be the sole purchaser of the diesel product.
The GTL plant will be the first commercial one in the Western Hemisphere. The GTL diesel will be ofhigh quality with 0 ppm sulphur, approximately 0 ppm aromatics and a cetane number greater than 76.

Petrotrin will use the GTL diesel as a blendstock component for its diesel output. Share of export markets that require low sulphur, high cetane diesel could then be recaptured. In addition, the plant will produce hydrogen as a by-product, which will be available for purchase by Petrotrin.

The project commenced in February 2006 when dismantling of acquired equipment began.

Construction at the Pointe-a-Pierre site commenced in November 2006. As at August 2009, the estimated overall plant construction to mechanical completion was estimated at 97%. Revised mechanical completion date was end October 2009.
First diesel was estimated for end March 2010. The total project budget was estimated at US$428 million (TT$2,696.4 million).
