
In August 2004, Leroy Mayers was appointed the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries. He oversees the management of the Petroleum and Mineral resources of Trinidad and Tobago.
Leroy Anthony Mayers has been a career civil servant for the last 34 years. He began as a Clerk in the Office of the Prime Minister and later rose through the ranks on completion of his professional training at the London School of Accountancy.
He is a graduate of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. He has held the positions of Tax Officer at the Board of Inland Revenue, Public Sector Accountant and Senior Business Analyst in the Ministry of Finance.
In 1996 he was appointed Director in the State Enterprises Division of the Ministry the Ministry of Finance. He was responsible for informing and implementing Government's policies with respect to the rationalisation of the State Enterprises.
In 1998 he was appointed to the post of Director of Budgets in the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Development with responsibility for the organization and administration of the National Budget of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. As Director he was also a member of the Government's team involved in the formulation and review of the National Budget and Fiscal Policy.
In 2000, Leroy Mayers was appointed Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Development. He was responsible for advising the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago through the Minister and Cabinet on matters of policy. As Permanent Secretary, he also had responsibility for co-ordinating the functions of the Ministry and the various divisions under its purview.
Mr. Mayers also serves on the Board of Directors of a number of State Enterprises including the National Energy Corporation and the Trinidad Nitrogen Company Limited. He is a Member of the Government‘s Standing Committee on Energy and the Natural Gas Export Task Force
He is married and is the father of two (2) children. He is a past student of Trinity College.
