Dr. The Honourable Roodal Moonilal, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and The Honourable Ernesto Kesar, Minister in the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries have reinforced the call for health, safety and the environment (HSE) protocols to be observed throughout the energy sector. The Energy Ministers reiterated that HSE and labour relations remain paramount to energy sector operations which are currently aimed at increasing production levels to meet domestic and international energy demands.

In this regard, The Honourable Ernesto Kesar, Minister in the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries will spearhead an enquiry into the reports of a ‘sick out action’ related to the Teak, Samaan and Poui fields. The enquiry into the matter aims to ensure the enforcement of workers’ protection standards, without disrupting ongoing exploration and production activities.

Perenco, a major operator in the Teak, Samaan and Poui fields, remains in direct communication with the Energy Ministers and has provided in an update that, “The provision of operations services is being affected but production has not been impacted.” Perenco has also advised its operational support services sub-contractor to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

The Energy Ministers are committed to working with operators to ensure that exploration and production objectives continue to align with national objectives by advancing production targets, strengthening HSE protocols and fostering a resilient and sustainable workforce.
