On 5th November 2025, Dr the Honourable Roodal Moonilal Minister of Energy and Energy Industries, the Honourable Ernesto Kesar Minister in the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries and Ms. Ayasha Nickie, Director Downstream Petroleum Management Division at the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries, met with Yara Trinidad and TRINGEN (Trinidad Nitrogen Company Limited) executives and toured the Yara TRINGEN Complex located at Savonetta, Point Lisas, Trinidad and Tobago.
Present at the tour were Mr Emerson Cheddie, Chairman of the Trinidad Nitrogen Company Limited Board; Mr Karlon Batchasingh, President of Trinidad Nitrogen Company Limited; Mr Treveno Mowassie, President Yara Trinidad Ltd/ VP Operations TRINGEN; Mr Trygve Faksvaag, Director TRINGEN; Mr Gregory Prevatt Director TRINGEN; Mr Roger Packer Director TRINGEN; Mr Bruce Hope Director TRINGEN; Mr Jonathan Walker, Corporate Secretary TRINGEN; and Mr Kahlil Mohammed, Senior Manager Finance / VP Finance TRINGEN.
The meeting and tour focused on matters of energy security, TRINGEN’s role in the national economy, collaboration between public and private partnerships and agricultural initiatives within the country. Mr Treveno Mowassie gave an overview of the company’s 50 years of operations and the importance of TRINGEN to Trinidad and Tobago’s economy. This was followed by a tour of the TRINGEN I and TRINGEN II assets where the Energy Ministers met with members of staff at both control rooms and received reports of a good operating year thus far in terms of safety and overall operating performance.
Minister Kesar took the opportunity to congratulate the staff on a successful turn-around while Minister Moonilal commended staff on their longstanding service to the company as some employees expressed that they have been with the company for more than thirty years.
The tour concluded with a visit to the company’s Deep Water Port Terminal where the ‘Yara Freya’ vessel was anchored for the loading of ammonia, bound for the international market.
The Yara Caribbean and National Enterprises Limited (NEL) is a joint venture officially known as the Trinidad Nitrogen Company Limited (TRINGEN). It’s a partnership where National Enterprises Limited (NEL) owns 51% and Yara Caribbean a subsidiary of Yara International ASA) owns 49%. Yara Trinidad Ltd manages and operates the site on behalf of TRINGEN. This joint venture operates two ammonia production plants namely TRINGEN I and TRINGEN II, a power generation plant, port and harbour facilities and several other utility areas at Savonetta, Point Lisas, Trinidad and Tobago.
