Energy Ministers Meet With Caribbean Gas Chemical Limited


Dr. The Honourable Roodal Moonilal, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and the Honourable Ernesto Kesar, Minister in the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries along with Mrs. Penelope Bradshaw-Niles, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries; Ms. Karinsa Tulsie, Permanent Secretary (Ag.), Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries; and Mr. Marc Rudder, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Ag.), Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries met with Mr. Keio Kato, Chief Executive Officer, Caribbean Gas Chemical Limited; Mr. Omote Masaaki, Chairman, Caribbean Gas Chemical Limited; Mr. Nigel Irish, Director Caribbean Gas Chemical Limited; Mr. Yasufumi Kawano, Chief Administrative and Strategy Officer, Caribbean Gas Chemical Limited; Mr. Sieunarine Ramkumarsingh, General Manager Plant Operations, Caribbean Gas Chemical Limited; and Mrs. Elizabeth Warner Julien, Corporate Affairs Manager, Caribbean Gas Chemical Limited. The meeting took place on 11th June 2025, at the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries’ International Waterfront Complex, Head Office, Port-of-Spain.

At the meeting the Caribbean Gas Chemical Limited (CGCL) officials provided an update on its operations and highlighted that its current production and export volume is approximately four million metric tons of methanol. CGCL is a joint venture company comprising of local and international shareholders including Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company Inc., Mitsubishi Corporation, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., the National Gas Company and Massy Holdings Limited. CGCL’s core business is the production and sale of methanol, a vital ingredient in a variety of industries, including chemicals, plastics, and fuel.

During the meeting, CGCL took the opportunity to highlight its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, which focus on five main pillars: education, community, health, sports, culture and community development. The Honourable Ernesto Kesar, Minister in the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries commended the company’s contributions to its fence line community and called for the sharing of its business acumen within this area as well as other areas across Trinidad and Tobago. The aim being to encourage and educate citizens towards entrepreneurship with a deeper focus on growing a business.

Dr. The Honourable Roodal Moonilal, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries highlighted the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago’s commitment to working with stakeholders such as CGCL as it navigates the demands of the global methanol market. Dr. Moonilal also called on to the company to work alongside the Government to achieve Prime Minister the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bisessar’s vision for Trinidad and Tobago to reemerge as the ‘Energy Capital’ of the region by leveraging our resources, experience and expertise.
