The Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries advises that representatives from a number of energy sector stakeholder groups continue to provide hands-on expertise to remediate the hydrocarbon discharge off the coast of Cove, Tobago.

  Responders from Heritage Petroleum Limited have been keenly responding to the clean-up of the affected mangroves and river systems including areas around Lambeau Bridge 1 and Thompson River.

   The response teams attached to Heritage Petroleum Ltd have delivered training to local workers on spill response techniques and equipment with an emphasis on responder safety.

  The Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries has mobilized marine assets of the National Energy Company to aide in the recovery of hydrocarbons utilizing the NOFI Current Buster Technology. This system will be utilized in a nearshore tactic utilizing a standard two vessel configuration. Additionally, NOFI INAK systems will be engaged for a single vessel sweep tactic offshore, this allows for the use of one tow vessel providing a more efficient operation overall. The Trinidad and Tobago Air Guard has been facilitating aerial surveillance for the response.

  The technical staff attached to the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries have continued to be on the ground in Tobago overseeing the operations by the international experts associated with assessing the vessel, the wreck clearance and salvage activity. The Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries personnel continue to collaborate with TEMA and the THA and to offer their assistance and expertise as required.
