Minister Young attends PACC 2030 Senior Leaders Meeting

The Honourable Stuart R. Young S.C. M.P. Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, attended the Senior Leaders Meeting of the United States of America- Caribbean Partnership to Address the Climate Crisis 2030 (PACC 2030), as the representative of Dr. The Honourable Keith C. Rowley, Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the co-Chair of the Caribbean/US Energy Security Action Committee. The meeting was hosted virtually on 11th December 2024 by Brian Nichols, Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, United States of America (U.S.A), with the purpose of reviewing the successes of PACC 2030 and discussing future cooperation.

Also attending the meeting were representatives from the CARICOM Secretariat, other CARICOM countries, the Office of the Vice President of the United States of America, the Department of State, the Treasury Department and U.S. Aid, amongst others.

With reference to the launch of PACC 2030 by Vice President Kamala Harris at the ninth Summit of the Americas in June 2022, The Honourable Stuart R. Young S.C. M.P. stated, “With the support of other leaders of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), we continue to pursue energy security in the CARICOM and wider region. In this regard, we look forward to the continuity of our efforts as we were able to accomplish many milestones in two and a half years through this relationship with the United States. In pursuit of energy security, we look forward to this continued support notably to access climate finance for Caribbean states and the opportunity for Trinidad and Tobago to provide energy security via the continued pursuit of gas production for LNG and Ammonia/ fertilizers for the region and Europe.”

PACC 2030 is the flagship partnership between 15 Caribbean states and the government of the United States of America, to advance climate adaptation and resilience and to promote clean energy cooperation through 2030, in order to meet the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Since PACC 2030 was launched in 2022, the United States of America has provided over $100 million in new resources to increase access to climate finance, accelerate the transition to renewable energy, build climate resilience and adaptation, and strengthen food security in the Caribbean.
