The Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, The Honourable Stuart R. Young, MP along with Permanent Secretary, Ms. Penelope Bradshaw-Niles, met with His Excellency Yoshimasa Hayashi, Minister of Foreign Affairs Japan and His Excellency Yutaka Matsubara, Ambassador of Japan, along with a Japanese Delegation at the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries, International Waterfront Complex Head-Office, today, Monday 1st May, 2023.
Minister Young was pleased to welcome His Excellency Yoshimasa Hayashi, Minister of Foreign Affairs Japan, as the first high level Minister from Japan to visit Trinidad and Tobago in a long time. Discussions surrounded the relationship between Japan and Trinidad and Tobago regarding further investments in T&T’s energy sector. Minister Young welcomed the continuous trade relations with Japan and expressed the Government’s willingness to have discussions with Japan inclusive of other sectors outside of energy such as trade, education and natural disaster management.
Both Minister Young and Minister Hayashi agreed on the importance of encouraging young persons in the area of innovation and new technologies that are key at this time. Minister Young conveyed his admiration for Japanese culture and welcomes the opportunity to learn from Eastern culture and expressed his willingness to keep the channels of communication open between the two countries especially on the diplomatic side. Minister Young thanked His Excellency Yoshimasa Hayashi and the Japanese Government for their continued kindness to T&T.
