On 22nd January 2024, The Honourable Stuart R. Young, MP, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister along with Mrs. Penelope Bradshaw-Niles, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries, met with HE Eng. Mohamed Hamel, Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) and Mr. Imran Mohammed, Gas Transportation and Storage Analyst, GECF, at the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries’ International Waterfront Complex Head Office, Port-of-Spain.
At the meeting, The Honourable Stuart R. Young, MP, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister and HE Eng. Mohamed Hamel, Secretary General GECF discussed the important role of natural gas as a clean source of energy and the use technology such as ‘Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) to further mitigate carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. The global expansion of natural gas markets was also discussed, this highlighted future opportunities for Trinidad and Tobago as an exporter.
Trinidad and Tobago is a founding member of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum. This long-standing relationship of interaction and exchange, not only allows for Trinidad and Tobago to be a part of the global conversation on the direction of natural gas but it also creates global opportunities for nationals. Mr. Imran Mohammed, Gas Transportation and Storage Analyst, GECF, who accompanied the GECF Secretary General to Trinidad and Tobago is a former young professional at the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries.
The 7th GECF Summit will take place on 2nd March 2024 in Algiers, North Africa. HE Eng. Mohamed Hamel, Secretary General of the GECF took the opportunity to personally invite The Honourable Stuart R. Young, MP, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister and Mrs. Penelope Bradshaw-Niles, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries to further the interests of Trinidad and Tobago at the high-level global gathering.
